"I can see Carys being a valuable member of any sound engineer crew.
- Lewis Blair (Glenthorne Music Technician)
I am passionate about working with sound. I like the challenges it presents and the creative possibilities. I am aware that there is an underrepresentation of females in the audio and music production industry, which currently only approximately 5%. I noticed this was true and it became a driving force for me to get involved in the world of sound.
I play acoustic guitar and proactively look for opportunities to enrich my skills. Recently, I have worked at a local large-scale concert that gave me the new experience of working outdoors and tackling challenges such as dealing with monitor mixes and controlling feedback. I have also worked as an assistant engineer for a production at the Rose Theatre in Kingston-Upon-Thames. I was in charge of cues, which required a lot of focus to support the director's vision for the show.
Once I have completed my degree, I aim to pursue a career as a live sound engineer who can adapt to both theatre productions and music concerts. I am excited by the prospect of being a front of house engineer for a large-scale gig and learning the management skills required to achieve this.
